The Client

Bruntwood Works is one of the largest commercial property providers in the UK.

Embedded in thriving towns and cities, Bruntwood create design-led spaces in the work, leisure and retail sectors to encourage interaction and establish a core sense of community. However, the business goes above and beyond its duty to its inhabitants – providing its community with access to expert support, resource, networks and education.

When Covid 19 began to affect businesses of all sizes in March 2020, Bruntwood sought to do as much as possible to help their own customers who were facing difficulties.

02

The Team

They launched Spark, a business support programme including webinars, workshops, and 1:1 advice and support.

But, arising from many of these sessions, Bruntwood discovered that their customers showed significant interest in sales and marketing training.

To provide further support to their customers as lockdown tightened, Bruntwood commissioned the expertise of MP&Co to develop and host a series of interactive workshops to support their customers in this key area.

The Challenge

Well-developed marketing and sales plans had fallen by the wayside in the brave new world of mid-pandemic working.

Small businesses were struggling to:

  • Make themselves visible
  • Stay relevant
  • Continue with growth and expansion plans

MP&Co wanted to give small businesses a new and innovative way to think about their marketing plans to reinspire and get them back on track.

The Solution

We designed a four-week online programme for 30 Bruntwood members – providing support, interactivity, discussion, resources and advice to provide practical steps forward.

Delegates met weekly in 90-minute group sessions where we led an educational webinar programme packed full of interactivity, break out rooms, resources and constructive activity. To support their learnings, delegates also completed homework tasks which arose from the sessions to create their own action plan. This helped delegates to create structure and momentum for the future growth of their businesses, or prepare themselves to capitalise on new opportunities, created by the need to pivot.

As a team, MP&Co also offered 1:1 support outside of the group sessions for the duration of the four-week programme and beyond – extending this support period to ensure that delegates understood action points and that advice was still working hard for them after the programme had finished.

Finally, we produced a deck of supporting content each week to keep delegates on track and focused. Subsequently, resources were also utilised to encourage others to examine their marketing plans and to review, reimagine and relaunch.

The Approach

We designed the four-week programme around the three key principles of Review, Reimagine and Relaunch, with a final session on accountability and problem–solving.

Week 1

In the first week, our Digital Strategist, AJ Handley-Rowe, encouraged delegates to review their current marketing activity and proposition. By thinking about where they were and identifying key areas that needed to be addressed, delegates were able to ensure their business was in a good place to move forward. We used a pillar-based solution for this first session, ensuring that delegates knew:

  • The skills needed to create a marketing plan
  • How to select the right marketing technology and people
  • Understand ROI tracking
  • How to ensure their message truly resonated with their clients
Week 2

In the second week, Sarah Wilde, our Brand Specialist, led the session. We moved to reimagine: asking delegates to reimagine the future direction of their business. We created content to ensure that delegates refined their messaging – particularly in reference to the three C’s:

  • Clarity – zooming in on sales targets and their market niche
  • Consistency – creating a stable look and feel
  • Connection – ensuring that stakeholders were on board and building all-important brand loyalty.
Week 3

In week three, delegates were given a blueprint for a powerful marketing campaign plan. Further, they were also provided with the advice and support required to refine their strategic plan to be structured and results-focused. MP&Co advised on campaign planning, setting targets and measuring performance, ensuring that delegates could harness their collective creativity and create momentum when coming to the end of the programme.

Week 4

Finally, in week four, we provided a dedicated session on accountability, problem-solving and answered any questions delegates had arising from the previous three weeks.

The Outcome

We successfully delivered the programme to 30 delegates and received lots of positive feedback after its conclusion.

One of the delegates has since commissioned work from an associate of MP&Co, demonstrating the quality of our offering, our ability to signpost further initiatives and how we can provide actionable support through our programme.

Finally, our client, Heather Gray, Business Development Manager at Bruntwood Works was delighted with the feedback from the community, stating:

“We worked with Mike’s team to deliver our first workshop as part of our business support programme, Spark. As this formed part of a pilot project, and aimed to support customers through a distressing economic period, it was important for us to get this right.

We had worked with Mike previously to deliver educational sessions for our customers, and received exceptional feedback, so determined he was a safe pair of hands for a high stakes project. Mike’s team exceeded our high expectations – he worked closely with us to create the marketing strategy for the programme itself, checked in regularly with us and the customers as individuals, created fantastic resources and interactive tools, and of course the delivery of the sessions themselves was exceptional.

Customers have since commissioned further consultancy with the team, demonstrating the quality of their work, and we will certainly be delivering more workshops with them, ourselves.”
